AWS Developer

Status: Full-time

Overall Outcomes of the Position

John Foord assesses the value of property, plant and equipment for insurance and finance purposes using site inspections, modelling and analysis. The role of AWS Developer is to enhance John Foord’s reputation as an industry leader by creating ground breaking data analysis, reporting and research.

You will manage a team of analysts to collate, clean, filter, test and visualise varied historic data from John Foord documents and third-party sources.  The intention is to build innovative valuation and operational systems and predictive databases to progress the development and expansion of our business across new markets and industry sectors.

You will advise internal and external clients on analytics matters, striking a good balance between meeting desired deadlines and ensuring that any solution is well thought out and implemented sensibly, effectively and efficiently according to best practices.

This is a fantastic role for an entrepreneurial confident individual capable of building the tools and team around them to deliver innovate data analysis solutions that add value to John Foord and our customers.

Key Role Responsibilities


  • Develop database models to determine the value for insurance and finance purposes of clients’ fixed assets (Plant, Equipment, Buildings, etc.)
  • Develop new models to project valuation scenarios and reflect value drivers
  • Contribute to the continuous development and quality improvement of John Foord’s internal systems
  • Work with directors to assess feasibility of requirement briefs
  • Identify weaknesses in data (volume/quality/structure) and develop solutions for resolution
  • Link internal and external data sets to expand knowledge of asset cost drivers
  • Use modelling and real time extrapolation to produce predictive asset values

Specific Job Requirements

  • University/tertiary qualifications in computer science, data analytics, engineering or related field preferred
  • Modelling/database design skills, particularly the development of online databases and website portals
  • Experience with a ‘lean start up’ type environment, where rapid change is common, would be useful
  • Knowledge of data protection requirements and standards
  • Previous team management experience preferred
  • Skills/experience of the following would be an added advantage:
    • Coding of structured and unstructured data
    • Data processing and analysis
    • Database development and associated infrastructure design
    • Data visualisation
    • Web programming languages
  • Occasional international travel is a requirement of this role so eligible and willing to travel at short notice if and when required (weekend working may be required but rarely)
