The John Foord team consisting of Graham Copland, Jarupan Thitilertdecha (Jui), Xueli Ang were in Bali, Indonesia from 23rd-25th November 2022 for the Asia Pacific Energy Conference (APEC). This year’s conference is the 13th edition of the offshore energy conference which was expanded to include downstream energy into focus.
The attendees gathered from all around the globe; Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, India and even United Kingdom to connect in person after three years and discuss key developments in the offshore and onshore energy sector.
The conference kickstarted with an insightful keynote by Dr Yao Lixia from NUS, Singapore, discussing energy security and energy transition, and how one is not more important than the other but rather should complementary.
Inflation and supply chain was a key focus, with a session by Andrew Merrilees, Capital Consulting International sharing insights on how market conditions such as rising commodity prices, supply chain disruption, shortages of labour have an impact on the downstream sector. Graham presented on ‘Inflation and Cost Escalations in Energy Construction and Property Risks’, focusing on the implications of volatile markets on reinstatement costs for downstream, upstream and renewable assets, and ways to mitigate these risks.
Key discussions over the three days include industry transitions and adaptations and roles of the various stakeholders, and the ever-popular topic of – ESG & renewable energy.
It was a great opportunity for the team to catch up with both old and new friends in a wonderful location and we look forward to the next edition in 2023.
